Breast Cancer: Lifetime Incidence
One in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.1
Cause of Death
An estimated 42,250 men and women died from breast cancer in 2024.1
Estimated Prevalence
In 2024, an estimated 310,720 women and 2,800 men were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.1
Early Detection
When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.1
A Common Cancer
Aside from skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women. Approximately 30% of all new cancer diagnoses in women are breast cancer.1
Treatments for HR+ Disease
Over 70% of breast cancer tumors are hormone receptor (HR)-positive; endocrine-based therapy is the preferred standard of care for the majority of these patients.2,3
Breast Cancer
HR+/HER2- Disease
Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women and the second most common cause of death from cancer among women worldwide.3 The identification of the estrogen receptor (ER) and its role in development of most breast cancers led to the development of endocrine therapies.3 First-line treatment combining endocrine therapy with a CDK4/6 inhibitor is the treatment of choice for many of these HR+/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative (HER2-) patients, though mutations develop in up to 40% of patients – more than 90% of these in response to therapy.3
On this site, we invite you to explore more about breast cancer, specifically the HR+/HER2- type. Our goal is to provide you with a better understanding of how this type of cancer arises, the epidemiology and pathophysiology surrounding the disease, and considerations for assessing biomarkers and selecting treatment. We have also provided a patient toolkit specifically for patients that addresses topics such as living with cancer, frequently asked questions, and caregiver support to help patients better understand this type of cancer. Thank you for visiting!
